M11 Linked

With an exhibition commissioned by the London museum, Artsadmin approached Integrated Circles to provide for a solution, as they required a system to replay Graham Millar’s “linked” sound installation along a 3 mile route of the M11 link road, between Leyton and Redbridge.
The art work draws on material from 100 hours of recorded interviews from people who lived in the area before 400 houses were demolished in the 1990’s to make way for the motorway. The solution would be permanently mounted and had to work had to work outdoors in all weathers.
Integrated Circles custom designed and built twenty low power transmitter units with built in SoundStores which are attached to lampposts along the route of the tour.
Visitors pick up a receivers and headset from local libraries and use these to listen as they follow the route of the audio tour. The system was installed in 2003 and the Sound storage and transmission has been maintenance free and continues to operate today.
