Extraordinary animated wallpaper for British Airways First Class Lounges at Terminal 5.

Artwise Curators have been working with British Airways for the last 3 years to develop a series of commissions for their new lounges at the Richard Rogers’ designed Terminal 5 at London’s Heathrow Airport. T5 opened in March 2008, with an estimated 2,000,000 people going through the lounges each year.  

Integrated Circles were delighted to be selected to engineer the projection solutions in the Concorde and First Class lounges to display the commissioned works of Christopher Pearson who is one of the new generation of artist, pioneering the field of digital interfacing and motion graphics.

Inspired by the famous William Morris Willow Boughs design of 1887, Pearson used this iconic pattern as a starting point to create an extraordinary animated wallpaper that was first shown at his Royal College of Art degree show in 2006.

Since then he has expanded the concept by introducing more sequences and extending it to cover an 8m wall, where Integrated Circles have used three projectors to fulfil the requirement, in the British Airways First Galleries Lounge dining area in Terminal 5. The animated wallpaper installation, Willow Boughs, now gently morphs and slowly spreads and grows across the entire wall behind the diners; humming birds fly in to capture the blossoms, dandelion seeds disperse in the wind, and the grasses transform into underwater reeds with jellyfish emerging between them.

The first instating in the Digital Relief Series is an animated stone carving in the Concorde Gallery at Terminal 5.  Pearson has digitally animated the "trompe l’oeil's", the time honoured crest of British Airways, to create the effect of a traditional Relief Carving using directional lighting and specialty projectors.

It is always a pleasure watching the exacting details of Christopher Pearson’s work coming together, a spectacular animations full of colour or humour is the payoff for such precession work”.

Integrated Circles had previously provided projection solutions to display Christopher Parsons work at Coutts Bank, the Strand London.
