Hi Tech Jurassic Coast Gallery presentation is far from Prehistoric
Dorset County Museum opens its brand new Jurassic Coast Gallery. Thanks to a £336,500 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the existing Geology gallery has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art, 185 million year ‘walk through time’.
Designed as a focal point for all visitors to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, the Gallery charts the full 95 miles of coastline from Exmouth in Devon to Old Harry Rocks in Dorset.
Visitors to the new Gallery will learn how the coast was formed, what you can see today, and why it is so important. This fascinating geological story is delivered through touch, sound, text, and interactive displays, and at levels to suit all ages and all abilities.
Videos are replayed on a large screen from a solid state VideoStore, and Integrated Circles installed the interactive hardware to allow visitors explore the coastline in greater detail. Integrated Circles Project Manager Paul Nolan said, “Regional museums rarely have the in house staff to deal with daily rebooting of computers and IT support. They want systems which are simple to use, require very little or no staff intervention and provide years of trouble free operation. They can realy benifit from our own brand solid-state equipment, which is designed for this type of operation and supplied with warranties of up to ten years.
We choose the most appropriate ancillary items such as screens and projectors that we can find in the market place and use our experience to ensure that they are installed in ways which maximise reliability and the design life of the exhibit. We are delighted to offer optional maintenance contracts, building a long term relationship with the museums' staff and providing a total peace of mind solution”.
It is hoped that visitors will leave the Jurassic Coast Gallery eager to visit other areas of the coastline and learn more about the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site as a whole.
